We saw some beautiful gardens at Chelsea Flower Show this year with some enviable plant and colour combinations. Geum were very favourable with the designers and a must have summer flowering perennial for anyone wanting to re-create the planting trends. As ever, we enjoyed visiting the Show, Artisan and Fresh gardens but what unexpectedly caught our eye in the jam packed Great Pavilion was a humble stand presented by Somerset based nursery Pennard Plants. The exhibit showcased three allotments, one from 90 years ago to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, one based on the Chelsea Pensioner’s allotments at the Royal Hospital and a third contemporary allotment featuring a mirrored shed/hideaway which was frankly awesome. Pennard’s sell a range of fruit trees and bushes, herbs, edible plants and perennial vegetables and the gardens contained examples of vegetables grown from their heritage and heirloom seed range. It was a pleasure to see and had us hankering after a working garden of our own!
